New Study Shows GMO Food Can Cause Cancer

advertisement

French scientist Gilles-Eric Séralini unmasked the dangers of genetically modified brinjal, almost approved for commercial production in India. He shared with Savvy Soumya Misra his findings on Bt brinjal and Roundup Ready soybean

On the data submitted on Bt brinjal by Mahyco for approval from the Indian government

The data submitted to the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) of the Union environment ministry is not valid; it has not been signed by the scientist who conducted the tests. What is more scandalous is that the studies on the effects of Bt brinjal were conducted for just three months.

If the product is to be consumed by humans, the tests should have been for a period of at least two years—the lifespan of a rodent.

Worse, Mahyco tried to cover up the side-effects by jumbling data on various types of brinjal in a way that it was hard to compare Bt brinjal with normal brinjal. I am sorry to say people in the GEAC did not carefully assess the data. It is also not clear how the GEAC overlooked the fact that Bt brinjal has a protein that induces resistance to antibiotics. Mahyco has not studied hormonal impacts of Bt brinjal—Bt toxin found in it could lead to reproductive health problems.

On his findings on Roundup Ready soybean that tolerates herbicides

Our study found that even minute doses of Roundup (a natural herbicide) disrupt sex hormones like androgen and estrogen. The inert ingredients in Roundup Ready (RR) soybean like polyethoxylated tallowamine kill human cells and disrupt the synthesis and action of human sex hormones. The research was published in this year's July edition of the journal Toxicology. Some pregnant women who consumed RR soybean developed disorders. This combined with certain studies on animals in labs (conducted by others) made us conclude that Roundup is an endocrine disruptor.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's a good revenue plan that the "Life Sciences" companies selling the gmo foods also sell cancer drugs, no matter what happens they have something to sell us that we can swallow profitably!

True, but it blows the shiite out of the actuarial numbers for the new health care negotiations doesn't it!

but then again your correct that they can develop and feed us further drugs to correct this failure.

duh!!!

You're right Pamela. The sad part is that, it is as if we are being fried with our own oil and they get wealthier.

That's why we need to support local efforts and spend wisely, so we don't help so much! :~)

Yeah. You're right. If possible, we go for organic and shun away from processed foods to avoid cancer. Backyard gardening should be encouraged. Local government leaders must implement programs that promotes self-help and self-reliance.

Exactly right, we need to take care of ourselves better. Check out Local Harvest for small farmers near you. If you grow enough to sell you can register and if you're up for CoOps or starting one they have tools for that too.

Yeah, thanks Pamela. Actually, we're not anymore buying vegetables in the market. Though we only have a small plot, we maximize the space and even plant veges in recyclable containers. I feel so much happiness and peace whenever I harvest the fruits and veges that I personally planted on my free time. Most happy indeed, everytime I share it with my neighbors. Thanks God.

Also, companies such as Monsanto are have engineered corn and other crops to have a suicide gene where the crop grows for the season and is sterile. Therefore, you have to buy more seeds from Monsanto on order to keep your fields planted. This suicide gene spreads to non suicide crops and turns them into suicide crops. It's this sort of evil that we have to fight in order not to be slaves to biotech companies such as Monsanto. It's immoral for them to control the world's food supply and, they're on their way to doing it.

Sturat...Also, companies such as Monsanto are have engineered corn and other crops to have a suicide gene where the crop grows for the season and is sterile. Therefore, you have to buy more seeds from Monsanto on order to keep your fields planted.

The Terminator seeds are a horrid invention but they are not currently among the seeds that are widely cultivated forms. Unless I'm mistaken, the terminator seeds are allowed only in permitted test plots.

This suicide gene spreads to non suicide crops and turns them into suicide crops.

Contamination is a limited issue with the seeds that are in test phases like the Terminator. That said, those test plots number in the tens of thousands with over 14,000 in Hawai'i alone.

The test plot locations, chemicals applied and genetic details of the crops are classified as "BC" Business Confidential. There's little to no oversight and no means to contain pollen in open fields.

It's this sort of evil that we have to fight in order not to be slaves to biotech companies such as Monsanto. It's immoral for them to control the world's food supply and, they're on their way to doing it...

Biotech is pretty cavalier with their experiments and we do need to wake up and protect our heirloom seed crops our health and our environment. Support, small sustainable farming, try to buy local and know your farmers.

Local Harvest has a database to search for small farms, greenmarkets and CoOps across America.

Soycott Monsanto, boycott US soy which is over 90% Monsanto's boycott yellow corn and corn syrup products which are more than half Monsanto corn and that will help things to change.

Indeed, a win-win situation for these companies. Why don't we boycott them unless they'll become more concerned with our well-being. Otherwise, we can also be blamed by the future generations, if ever there will still be.

We're seeing the future now with kids manifesting obesity, diabetes, allergies, attention disorders, etc, etc. We have made a world that is not so healthy for people and other living things. Nature tells the truth about what we're doing, our changes create changes and you can't fool Mother Nature!

Saddening indeed! Health is wealth. Thus, if this is the situation now of our kids, no matter how financially stable we are if our bodies are rotting because of junk foods, then we are the poorest. I think we should now be conscious and cautious starting from our homes to be selective in feeding our children and educating them the importance of eating healthy, organic and non-processed foods.
