NORAD Calls Palin's Claims Lies

advertisement

When Russian bombers approach American airspace and U.S. Air Force fighters are scrambled, Sarah Palin's phone doesn't ring.
The Alaska governor has no command authority over the guardians of U.S. airspace despite her recent suggestion otherwise.
"She doesn't have any role in that process," Air Force Maj. Allen Herritage, spokesman for the Alaska North American Aerospace Defense Command, told the Daily News.
RELATED SARAH PALIN TURNS UP THE ANGER
"The authority to launch and respond to a Russian incursion lies with the Alaska NORAD Region commander" - Air Force Lt. Gen. Dana Atkins, he said.
Palin said last week that her foreign policy experience includes facing the Russians.
"It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia, as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America - where do they go? It's Alaska," Palin told CBS' Katie Couric.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The foreign policy claims stretch the truth beyond seeing Russia!

After Sarah Palin announced her now oft-repeated line that "you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska," Gary Tuchman from CNN’s news show Anderson Cooper 360° went to find this island. Here’s his report:
The island is called Little Diomede. It looks like a rock plopped into the Bering Strait. Only about 150 Alaskans live on the whole island. And just about two miles away; in full view of every single house on the island is the nation of Russia. Specifically, it is the Russian Island of Big Diomede which sits about 25 miles from the Russian Siberian mainland (which you can also see from the American island.) […]
We were curious what the Little Diomeders thought about Palin’s claim of foreign policy experience because of the proximity of Siberia. Interestingly, many of these Alaskans had no idea who Sarah Palin was! It turns out […]

For Informational and Instructional Purposes

The Tunnel route connecting Alaska to Siberia and why doesn Sarah Palin know of its proposed existence

Proposed US-Russia Bering Strait Bridge or Tunnel

Proposed/envisioned bridge or tunnel spanning the Bering Strait between Cape Dezhnev, Chukotka, Russia, and Cape Prince of Wales, Alaska, USA, traversing the Diomede Islands.

The Bering Strait could be spanned by a series of three bridges via the Diomede Islands for a total distance of about 80 km (50 miles).

Each leg of the proposed bridge would be about the same length of the existing Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in New Orleans - however the Bering sea is much deeper and has vicious weather and ice conditions.

@ Pamela Drew Absolutely priceless, still chuckling. :)

why doesn Sarah Palin know of its proposed existence

@Jeremiah Johnson I can answer that for you. This is a very interesting flip flop by Palin. Firstly, I should point out she is known as the Hugo Chavez of Alaska by the oil companies. This is because Sniper Mom thinks that Alaska has a large gas reserve, and she want you the American tax payer to fund a pipeline to a pocket of Natural Gas in Alaska worth about 30 billion $ The cost of the pipeline is minimum 30 billion $ providing nothing goes wrong. Now the only way that this gas is worth exploiting, and that means that even if Alaska gave this gas away for free it would still not be worth drilling, is to have a trans Siberian pipeline, to Alaska. This would pay for the pipeline, and also make exploiting any pockets of gas in Alaska worth while. Sadly the fearless pentecostal sniper mom has gone & shot off her big stupid mouth, and, Russia will never have anything to do with a gibbering loony like that. So if she does get a foot in the door of the White House you can rest assured that the price of Natural gas will triple for you and your fellow Americans so some cronies in Alaska can skim contracts and pocket the lucrative deals that go with this type of venture. So all electricity generated by Natural Gas will triple in cost, or more, if you heat your home with Natural gas the price will go up, or your local government can exploit coal seem gas in your local area and the price of that will actually creat jobs in your local area and the reduced transit costs will make the energy even cheaper than what it is now.

I am well aware of the substantial fields of Methane Hydrate and Natural Gas than can be exploited off the coasts of Washington to California and in the Gulf for a fraction of the cost of a Bazillion Dollar Pipeline thru the Arctic Tundra.

As we get more and more congressional leaders on board that are savvy to ThePickensPlan and etc., Palin Plans will be seen for what they are and voted down.

Sorry, Alaska. You're not ready for prime time.

I have yet to see any of the righties defend her on anything she said in that interview. I think they are actually, finally, embarrassed.

Imagine! GW Bush couldn't even do that!

More accurately it was just exposing the misappropriated credit.  Unfortunately lying to grab credit for something you have no hand in is a desirable trait in Washington.

Never misunderestimate the ignorance of the public!!

I really wish people would get over the secret muslim b.s. and look at the facts for what they are. The Republican ticket this year is a hot headed, self centered ass and a quasi-literate red neck. But then again, that's what's been elected the last two elections.

What would be the result of a last minute switch???

Nothing but further evidence that McCain has absolutely no judgement.

In the wake of his botched attempt to save the day with the financial crisis, he can't afford such a misstep again.

It would be framed as an extremely dire family issue. Her son, daughters health.. something along those lines. McCain would extol her service and praise her for having "family values" etc.

He would reluctantly accept her resignation from the ticket and then appoint whoever the neo-cons have picked for him.

Palin probably doesn't even know what NORAD is. Someone should ask her. She'd probably say something like, "I absolutely agree with any organization that is against left wing radicals."
