By the time I found my way to the Newsvine community I had spent many years doing research in the area of genetically engineered foods. In many ways it was the absence of public information about genetically modified foods that led to my interest in political corruption and investigating the problems created by corporate influence in public policy. For a lot of you here, this gmo revelation is hardly a news flash.
Over the months I have been here it has been a wonderful experience and I have enjoyed being somewhat anonymous face in the crowd. I have always preferred to be in the background, doing research and support, exposing nothing more than my opinions publicly. For better or worse, I have been myself and used my name on Newsvine and so there was really no way to avoid the coming out. Despite many weeks of soul searching and a few e-mails to Calvin, no brilliant words or plan have come to me.
I'm coming out of the closet to share with you, my fellow viners, what I have been up to. Long before I had ever heard of gmo foods I was introduced to an incredible network of cancer researchers. Over time our paths drifted apart and I began following the gmo foods and battling to find someone in the mainstream media to help make the information public. When at last it was clear no one would talk about the subject, I went back to the people in the cancer research community. To my surprise and their horror, none had been made aware of any of the changes to the food supply and many began working to spread awareness within the medical community and exert pressure to eliminate some of the riskiest foods.
Some of you may have noticed the trends replacing soy proteins with whey formulas, shifts from corn syrup to sugar and supermarket shelves bursting with new cereals made with non gmo grains of oats and bran etc. While that was happening I was fighting the only way I knew how, a documentary film. Much as I preferred to stay completely out of the picture, it was agreed by everyone but me, that I needed to be seen, to give a face to the voice driving the project. So there you have it, my confession of film making is out. I have also broken my promise to leave my muckraking out of the artsvine and this is the first thing I've done to qualify as arts. I'm glad ardith is tolerant, even supportive of a bit of muck.
A link to the site is below, no HTML tags for this camper. Hopefully you enjoy the trailer and site. In the coming weeks there will be video updates to give a broader framework for the final film. We have found some truly brilliant contributors and hope to bring their voices to a greater audience. Feel free to ask questions, dish zingers or whatever else you would do if the film site were just a seeded link. This isn't really about me it's about all of us and the struggle for a healthy future for our children and our planet.
Sad news our "secure" server has been hacked; we have major damage. The tech people are searching for the problem, which they say they've never seen before. I'll update you when we have it fixed, unfortunately it's vandalism not storm related. Not a good note to start on.
